Employment means the availability of paid work. A person may be employed with Some organization. In such a case he receives a fegular salary or Commission and other financial benefits. A person may have his own business or other productive activity. This type of employment is called self-employment. Non-availability of any chance of earning a regular income is termed as "unemployment".
Unemployment is the problem of the whole mankind. It is not only the problem of poor countries like Pakistan, but it is also a threat to other developed countries. With the insreasing population and rising prices, it is badly affecting human beings throughout the world. As it is mainly the problem of the youth, it is adversely shaking the new generation.

Pakistan is facing this problem with all its severity. Every year the chances of getting jobs become harder and harder. Every year a fresh lot of the degree holders is added to the already unemployed persons. Poor economic condition of our country cannot. offer jobs to them. The result is widespread dissatisfaction. This disturbs the families of the unemployed young men.

There are many reason for unemployment. The main cause of unemployment in Pakistan is the lack of planning. Our colleges, schools and universities are mostly giving traditional education which is of no use. We are not clear about our targets in life. We have never made any proper planning to meet the needs of our future. Our syllabus generally does not match the requirement of the time. Our teaching techniques are old. The result is . that our graduates mostly do not fulfil the needs of the employers. This is why our young men remain unemployed.

In the advanced countries, syllabus is designed to meet the requirement of the age and is taught very effectively. The result is that the person who successfully Completes such a course gets an employment and proves helpful to his community.

In our country, there is no trend of students counselling. Our students select the combinations of subjects without proper guideline. They usually follow the common trends. The result is that the candidates are always more in number than the jobs. For this purpose, special programmes should be launched on TV and internet so that the youngsters may get familiar with the new trends. 


We People in Pakistan mostly prefer office jobs with a set routine. There is no trend of generating income from other sources. We are not fully aware of the importance of Cottage industries or small enterprises. If our educated youngsters work with proper planning, they can earn honorable living. They can work in groups. Their mutual co-operation wilt solve most of their problems. With a small amount of money every young man can set up his own enterprise. Many members of the family worrying in association can generate handsome Sources.

To remove the evil of unemployment from our country, we should follow the example of China. Chinese products have dominated market everywhere. The reason is that these articles are low-cost and handy. They are the products of the Chinese cottage industry. China is more thickly populated than Pakistan. But every member of the Chinese society is bent upon playing his role in generating 
income. While in our society, one member of the family earns and the others depend on him. Moreover, our people are usually over- employed in their business enterprises. For example, if the father owns a shop, the sons are also looking after the same business. Instead of setting up their own enterprises, they all remain dependent on the same source.
